I think i posted a similar topic a while ago but i really cant remember, anyway, does anyone know a FREE programme/tool that i can use to convert my mp3 files into m4a?

itunes will convert files into m4a, although it calls it apple lossless format and turns the mp3's in to 30mb+ file

Yeah, the AAC file format in iTunes is essentially .m4a.

No. MP3 is MPEG layer 3. MP4 is MPEG layer 4.

Must just be the iPhone. The store has protected .m4a's but it just uses the AAC encoder.
Another fun fact... .mov = .mp4 just tailored for Quicktime.
