As im sure you all know im well into my next mix which is going to be mad up of nearly all my favorites! This time I have taken a differt approach, instead of going for one long mix I am only working on a few sections at a time; I have heard of people trying this where you may make a about three six track mixes, test each one (see how they sound through headphones as I do) & then put them onto a CD & then just mix the three CDs together!

This sounded like a good idea but also seems to be a bit like cheating but I supose if your making a studio mix then you could get away with it lol

Anyway I have been working on about 6 vocal happy classics & after alot of testing, changing & reworking my mini mix sounded ok! I am also in the prosess of working on some Bouncy Techno classics, some full on beasts here & my mix will have a good number of these in. I will top the mix off with Gabber (Old skool/ early Gabber). Im thinking of having a few newer tracks from the last 8 years (middle skool as I call them) to make it even more varied!

I was wondering if anyone has ever tried this approach to mixing (although it can only be done with CDs) I might do my very own live mix one day for a laugh if I have a few people over! Im sure most people have found a way to enhance their mixing but I don't want to be seen as someone who is lazy as I have been putting alot of effort into this mix & really enjoying it! I want to be seen as someone who tries hard with it & not take the easy way out & expect a computer to do all the work for me lol

As for beatmatching I am slowly getting the hang of it, not that good but better I would say!

Can do it with serato as well, on the SSL forums me and a few members made a mix tape by similar to this method

ie some one mixed the first 2 song then uploaded it, i would downlaod it play his first to songs then i would mix at the end of it, i uploaded that for the next person...........

the way your taking about doing it is cheating, but hey if it sounds good why care? I know many people that when recording a mix tape if they fu*k up will just put the record back a little and try the mix again and then edit it with a program and the listener would not know the difference!

That sounded like a good idea! Maybe a few of the more experienced members of the forum could try a mix like that? I havn't heard of that being done here before!

It is a useful 'cheat' as I nearly always cock up somewhere along the line! My 'Sound of ecstasy' mix was a nightmare, full of errors & the mixing was terrible I don't even know why I put it up lol Im glad I have moved on a bit now but still need alot of work to do!

I hope to get this mix up next month to tie with my 21st birthday! Although my birthday is July 31st so it will be a bit before lol

I tried this before I got my vinyl decks, I used a mini disk player and a CD player. It's a lot of hard work and it does feel like you've cheated.

It can be good for doing mix's online though - remember myself & DMS put together a mix a while back? We used this method - I made the first part, sent it to DMS and he CD'd it and mixed the second part together.

i wonder if this is what the pro's do. like the 5 that mixed the one cd on the latest hardcore nation?

i dont care if its cheatin its a home/studio mix, its what it sounds like that matters!

i say do ur mix how u feel confortable, its all a learnin process, if this is the best way u feel comfortable at teachin urself then respect to u matey!

now what is cheatin a pisses me of is people usin cdjs, laptops or premixed cds in clubs/events

get on the vinyl dex and show the payin crowd what ur about

^^^ Im sure the guys who were big in the 80s (old Chicago/ Detroit House legends) would find it something to cringe at with all these 'mdern' guys who go into clubs & let their lap top do the work while they chat up the MCs girlfriend lol

I have heard that in some places they even have screens showing what the DJ is selecting aand what track is next! It is all fair enough being modern but that isn't very rave like. The old days it was always a suprise whatever the next track was dropped!

i'd like to see more of a 'dj championships' style at our hardcore raves. let the djs really earn their coin!

bring back the fun that seems to be lost, raves these days are more like concerts
