I'd generally agree with that mate, let the scummy families all kill each other, less scum about the better as far as i'm concerned. the problem is its not happenin like that, innocent people are gettin hurt all ocz these mouthy kids have a chip on their shoulders with somethin to prove to the world.

all these killings have just got the stop. kids gettin killed before they've even lived. its a sorry state of affairs.

Ken Livingstone, London's ex Mayor, was being interviewed on Newsnight (BBC2) about a week ago.

When asked about the latest surge in knife related crime his answer was incredibly honest, maybe because
he is no longer Mayor and therefore free to be more open.

The gist of what he said is -

A very large proportion of gang mambers are illiterate.

They can't read or write and are unemployable and therefore poor.

They are very aware of this and know they won't be respected by society.

This engenders an inferiority complex.

They know that they are sub-standard and, in most cases, that their parents are too.

The only place that they have any hope of getting 'Respect' is from their own kind....

....and we all know what they have to do to get it.

Nothing new there but so many 'normal' people don't seem to understand this and I've never heard a politician say it.

Refreshing.

Yeah unfortunately it isn't happening like that all the time. But when I read about some wannabe gangster posing in his pictures for websites flashing fake gang signs and posing with knives and guns I fail to see the point why I should care that he died.

Oh great the thread is turning into awful politics now.

Anyway.... why London (of the places in England)? It's only a small part of England, what about the rest? Surely if you genuinely wanted to live here you would consider other places here too.

you guys dont understand the massive appeal of london to australians.... i love london. i dont let the weather get in the way of my whole experience living here. there are so many awesome things to see in london too. sure its the capital and its very typical.... but at the end of the day its very exciting.... australias biggest population is in sydney, but its still half the size of london. im not saying i want to live in a massive city for the rest of my life but its certainly a different experience.... london also has the rest of europe on the doorstep, which is also really appealing for australians, because most of us dont get to travel that often because its so expensive from australia...

on the other hand, new york is awesome aswell.... its prob my favourite city in the world from a tourist perspective because the city itself is always buzzing, it just feels like it has its own persona... i love nyc but i could only really live there if i had a decent amount of money.... i think it would be quite expensive....

if i were you, id live in london, make the most of travelling if you want to.... go to new york on a holiday for sure, its nowhere near as expensive if you travel from london.....

if you want to go on a long holiday and scrap the living abroad thing.... why dont you do a europe contiki tour see a whole bunch of diff stuff??? or do south america??? my next big holiday is definitely going to be south america

THAT

and

I have family friends in london so i dont have to worry about finding somewhere to stay! And if i liked it, then i can take my time finding my own place. Just takes the pressure off.

Now now Matt, just coz you're jealous he's coming to see me and not you, doesn't mean you need to rant about London being the only place in England m'kay?...

Won't be til 2009 or maybe even 2010...Theres a lot of variables. New york is looking like the winner for a temporary residency, but london is looking like the holiday destination... Mostly because ive alreayd been to ny and never been to london.
