So recently, I've been going through some stuff with a promoter about getting my turn tables back that I used at a rave and left there over night.

I don't know how many people here have ever had a problem with anyone like this. But here is mine.

On July 4th I went to DJ at a rave in Arizona called IndepenDANCE. It was a pretty decent sized rave, don't know the actual number of people attended but yah. I brought my tables with me because I felt more comfortable on those instead of decks I've never used before (in the fear of a trainwreck at my first live event). When arriving at the rave, I setup my tables, and my promoter, DJ Tonic (of tonic entertainment in tucson arizona) asks if he could borrow them for the whole night. I agreed. For me, I am a VERY nice person. I usually try and treat everyone I ever meet as if they are my best friend and I've known them forever. In this case, I failed really hard on that one.

So I leave them there that night and go back to my hotel and head home the next day. The past 3 weeks, I've been trying to get in contact with him to get my tables back. On 2 occasions so far, hes asked for my mailing address to send them off. Both time I replied to him the correct address and my name. So far, nothing has been sent back to me. Now, for the past week, none of my phone calls, text msgs, or emails via myspace, have been replied to. I've grown very impatient with this person, and I have to admit, I feel very stupid for trusting him at all.

Honestly, I'm not worried about it in the end. I have a lawyer and so do my parents. So getting back my stuff wont be too hard past this week of me taking this into legal matters. But I'd like to warn anyone who is contacted by this guy to come DJ at one of his events. Do not accept his request and tell him thanks for screwing DJ Roflz.

I'm glad I have other turn tables to dj on right now, but thats besides the point. He has $500+ of my equipment in his possession right now and hes a 6 hour drive away. I feel like I've been had on this whole ordeal :/

Also, the ONLY reason I left them there and didn't go back for them was due to the hour drive I'd have to make from my hotel to his house. With no car. So I figured I could trust this guy. Look where thats ended me up at :(

Moral of the story: Don't pull a DJ Roflz :'(

But seriously. If anyone is ever contacted by this guy, please do not accept his invitation. He's a flake. I'd feel bad if anyone else got taken advantage of by this dude like I did.

unfortunately you've learned the hard way not to trust promoters. sorry to hear this has happened and I wish you the best of luck getting your stuff back.

looks like you may have to bring/threaten to use lawyers

I don't care if I know the kid I always take my stuff with me at the end of the night.

At least 50% of the promoters I've met are dodgy / busy / idiots / in it for the money / all of the above, you should have taken the decks home with you.

You also have to remember that running an event is really hard, you're taking all the risk, if the party fails it's your money gone. I've run events before and there are nearly always problems on the night that you couldn't help and you have to solve them on the spot, still no excuse not to send back the decks...

Hope you get em back.

You left your decks with some random bloke you had never met before? Lesson learned (I hope).

Yeah, sorry to hear that Roflz. I'm pretty confident that you'll get em back mate, after all, you're going to bump into this guy at more events along the way & he'd be an idiot if he didn't think of that. I can't see him leaving the scene just cause he's got your decks mate so keep getting out to those events mate & you'll bump into him sooner or later;-)

Word of advice, if you want them back, IN PERSON, track him down. Find where he lives or is hanging about. If he thinks you Really want ur decks back ur more likly to get them... sit back and hope that he hand delivers them and you can bet you wont see them again!

Also, unless it was a close mate, i would never take any of my gear to an event (unless being paid, but even still i am very reluctant as the risk is took big).
If you loaned the gear to help get a set, jack it off and find a set elsewhere, unless you are happy lending your gear out to drunken djs who dont give a toss if they break the gear or not. If the promotor says he will replace any broken gear, the chances are 99% of promotors would just jack you off and not give you a penny

Yeah, tough way to learn.

Same as using Carts & Sty's, take your own, never let any one use them unless you know them personaly.

Good luck geting them.
