Right guys I wanna create something like this where you can see all the splashy background etc... Anyone know what this is called? Or know any tutorials on how to do this kind of background?

i can kinda do something like that using paint.net( like a free version of photoshop) but it just copies around that shape of the pain splat, just use the magic wand tool.
thats what i come up with
if anyone could explain how to do it from scratch would be bloody helpful

It's a free download just go to www.getpaint.net
just find a pic with that kind of splat effect and use the magic wand tool, it'll select the shape and then you get a picture you want in the background and you put it into a new layer. then you merge one layer onto the other, im not sure whats on top. just muck around with it till you get something you like.

Just downloaded Gimp but really hard to find some tutorials on it thought found some but not the one I was looking for. Nice little program I have to say!

The tools are pretty much the same as those available in Photoshop, so the tuts should work both ways, you just have to know where to find the tools.
