as a student, i don't have a lot of money to play around with, and i really hate that i'm limited to the shit of the shit as far as apartments go.
what's worse is that when i find something in my price range and i'm the first (or one of the first) to view the place i get this, "oh, we were hoping to rent to a small family, or two working adults" or some ********.
or, someone has some cracky looking place and want's like 1200 a month.
SERIOUSLY. the lack of reasonable housing kills me. i hate that i'm as old as i am living in my parent's basement, but there isn't a reasonable alternative.
for that reason, i'm kind of happy that there's a recession in the US right now. maybe the cost of living in canada will drop too.

Yeah im trying to look around for places at the moment, im trying to set my sights to buying a place rather than renting as a start but its seeming to be unrealistic. Its just a lot... of money. Not that im expecting it to be cheap to break into the housing market.

try finding a roommate.
unless your in a large college town getting a place to live by yourself is going to be difficult. renters want to put their property in the hands of someone who is going to stay for a while.

yeah i guess that's a good point.
i also wish that i could buy a place. that'd be nice, but yeah. i'd need a lot of money right now which i just don't have. it's a nice idea but my parents aren't loaded and wont front me the money, neither will the bank. so, looks like my rent money will just be going up in smoke for the next couple years, paying off some other douches mortgage.
that's life.

Don't you know anyone that you could move in with?
Or get a group of people together and you'll only have to pay a fraction of the rent each.
You've probly already thought of that, and i'm just making a tool of myself though

it's hard to find multiple people in the same position as yourself.

ooh, that sucks...i'll be heading off to college in less than 2 years myself, so i expect to be in a similar situation... and my parents are nowhere near loaded...but, as i am right now, i don't ever want to own a place. Privacy isn't an issue at all for me, and i've always thought that the idea of living in a big city apartment (with maybe a few crazy neighbors ;) ) sounds like loads of fun!...i dunno, mebbe i'm just wierd. Anyway, i hope that you find a solution soon :)
