If they are pulling out will the be able to do well by themselves or will they want to come back?
Saw a rumour about it, with all the hassle I have had at work it has been hard to keep up with things!

I think yes, they will be able to do well by themselves. Dont know if they'll do better though.
For the regular people this wouldnt have that much impact. In Nordic Countries people have been able to cross boarders without passports and work in other countries long before EU.
Of course i might be compleatly wrong, i'm not scottish and dont know the details of this.

I am from Scotland, however, I just want the best for the country, if we are better off under the union then so be it. It is quite difficult to predict how Scotland would cope with independence especially in the current financial times now.
There is meant to be some sort of referendum in 2010 that the First Minister Alex Salmond and his party the SNP have proposed to put forward. But even if it turns out most Scots want independence, Westminster can block this bill.

CMC has made an intersting point, and there would be alot of politics around energy. Scotland holds alot of the cards on oil and gas. However, oil and gas still have issues with supply starting to drop behind demand as more and more energy is being used faster than engineers can extract it from the ground.
Scotland has also rejected Nuclear as a way forward, deciding instead to rely on renewables. The UK however has signed up to Nuclear which will be a good bridge whilst renewables are developped to a stage that is feasible for majority supply.
If Scotland were to play hard ball with oil an gas it could find itself backed into a corner later on.
Is it me or has Alex Salmond getting more and more arrogant the more time he spends in power?

Missing out one of the biggest power sources in Scotland Hydro Power too, There are loads of hydro dam power stations in Scotland too,
Ive always wanted Scotland to be independent but as already said, In the current financial situation probably best in Union right now, But in the future I would hope to see independences for Scotland.

If Scoland are pulling out then, can England also pull out of the UK? The way things are now nothing seems good about the UK! Also it was Great Britian's 300th birthday last year & no one even noticed!
Happy Birthday for last year, Great Britian!

You're not under English rule you ****ing numpty, Scottish MP's have more control over how England is run than vice versa, and our last two Prime Ministers have been Scottish for **** sake.
Scotland aren't going to leave the union, they weren't before the economic down turn and they sure as hell aren't going to now. Labour are going to start gaining ground on the SNP because the public knows that for all his faults Gordon Brown is the most capable politician around for dealing with the economy, whereas Alex Salmond would run Scotland into the ground. What amuses me is how Salmond used to use Iceland as an example of how prosperous Scotland could be if independent, and now look at them! The fact is there'd be an economic exodus from Scotland if they were no longer part of the union, and they'd be lucky to remain a first world nation in the current climate.
I don't really see why they'd want to leave either to be honest, they're more independent than England is, and if it's a cultural thing I don't really get that either. I mean if you look at the UK, there's probably a more prominent cultural different between South England and North England than there is between North England and Scotland, the only thing that really separates us is our ****ing accents!

Errrrm, if you define anything North of Manchester as being Scotland then that is true, but last I heard Sedgefield (Tony Blair's constituency) was in England.
It is true though that Scotland is not under English rule - Scotland has its own parliament, with Alex Salmond being the first minister (essentially Prime Minister). Scotland rules itself and has its own regulations in place. It is effectively independent already

I agree with both Jenks & Underloop. They are already independent to a certain extent & even though there is a culture difference, it isn't that big (and indeed, there are alot of accents in the UK)
Also about there being a difference in culture between north England & South England, I don't think it is a very big one as such. I have been up north & into Scotland & didn't feel anything too different to down hear in Dorset.
Saying that though Poole where I live is 'Industrial' (Poole Quay) whereas Bournemouth is a seaside town so between the two towns you will notice a difference! I even notice that between Southampton (a larger version of Poole) & Portsmouth (who think they are 'oop North').
I think Scotland should stay as they might benifit financially but then I could be wrong...
