Until the ringing you so enjoy on Monday mornings after a night of partying hard doesn't go away and gradually gets louder and louder & starts to drive you insane. To the point where you cant sleep without music on & you cant read a book as you can't concentrate on anything other then the high pitched hiss in both ears, It drives you to the point of total insanity and some.
This is coming from a DJ who suffers with tinnitus. Mate you are an utter bellend for posting that.
It's taken me almost a year to overcome my tinnitus to a point where I can live with it. It's still there and will NEVER go away but I'm on top of it. It drove me to the edge though man so I'm sorry but I have no respect for you if that's the way you treat your health.
I use Alpine golds at the moe (I've used plugs for five years) and they rock, My cans fit over them fine so don't interfere with mixing and so on.
http://www.sensorcom.com/product.asp?P_ID=975&strPageHistory=related My best advice is to gear you ears up with some quality defenders before you next listen to loud music, It's all fun and games until the music takes it's toll! Peace! ;-)

Compulsion: do the Alpines actually work as they should? No muffling etc.?

They do mate. I dropped a load of gig's due to my ears but I came accross these after they were pointed out to me by another dj. They're excelent & have meant that I can get out on the road & also go to gig's and enjoy the music without the fear of screwing my ears even further. I've played on some mean rigs with them and have no problems at all.
They dont muffle, Only thing is it takes a couple of gigs to get used to mixing with plugs in but you soon get over that hurdle.
Only issue is the one in my right ear is always a real shit to get out! Other then that I love them and will continue to use them until something better comes along!

I had an illness earlier in the year & for a time went completely deaf in one ear. I didn't worry about ear protection before but do now. Not a nice feeling being deaf.

Cheers for the input Compulsionster.
While we're on it, does anyone have experience with ear cleaning? Is it better to do it yourself with a cleaning solution (or just hydrogen peroxide) or go to a doctor/nurse with it?

If they are bad then go to the nurse to have them syringed. I had mine done & it's not painful at all & improves hearing straight away.

Having my ears cleaned by the nurse was the trigger that kicked off my tinnitus so I would say don't do it. I was getting them cleaned so I could get the pro sound defenders fthat they mould to the inside of your ear. But then everyone is different so make your own choice!
