ok so im in the states, well in illinois.
so like this "inland hurricane" hit is, it knocked out power in about 8 towns for about 4 days, we finally got power it was crap.
we lost over $300 worth of food
most of the area is messed up, it was considered a cat.2 hurricane.... 100+mph winds
so many peoples homes were messed up
the funny thing is... we moved from florida about 8 months ago to get away from this, and florida has not had a bad hurricane since we left and we go hit up here lol...
only one person got kill...
they brought in like over 4000 people to fix the power, it was out over 30 miles i think, alot of it still out
alot of the trees are still down
well here are some pics, sorry they were on a mobile and ina car, but they did come out pretty good
my back yard

down the road

one side of siu(southern illinois university)

gas staion (the good one lol)

some downed trees

might have a few more pics soon
there were some cool up rooted trees lol

that is really nothing. sometimes common windstorms do that type of damage you don't need a hurricane for all of that. We had a real hurrican in Houston last year called Ike. I was in huntsville, which is about 150 miles from the coast and we got hit badly and lost power for almost 6 days.
Luckily very little of my food got wasted. I used all the meat that i had (which I believe was at least $100) and fed it to the people in the apartments. It wasn't too bad. we got a week's off of school, but we had to make it up tho. But yea the damage was much worse than those photos.
You should consider yourselves lucky to have only 1 person die from this hurricane.

lol well it was raw but we had BBQ pits so we were ok. basically for 6 days all we did was eat BBQ and drink beer. so it wasn't such a bad experience. plus i got to meet the neighbors, which was both good/bad, especially now that i don't give them any attention anymore

well florida homes, well florida everything should be automatically built to resist some hurricane damage. it's like if u live in California you aren't about to build a house that's made of a stack of cards with all the quakes. Galveston is somewhat prepared, but not for a constant hit-after-hit of hurricanes. when it comes to hurricanes, everything in the Caribbean and Florida have a huge kick-me sign
