Today was special for me. A former olypic GBR swimming Nick Gillingham came in to our leisure centre to teach young swimmers the art of brestroke swimming. as a lifeguard at the time, i took the opportunity to speak to him! As a swimmer myself, he's a major role model. We had a chat about my swimming, swimming in general and his legacy. We talked about other rander rubbish too! Whilst he was in the pool, I set off a race between him and another swimmer, im sure that'll be on youtube soon! I helped him pack up, got about 5 autographed pictures, and shook his hand after closing hours. It was wicked :)
He's a role model for many reasons, hes a gold medalist in many events spanning from olympic to county events. He's matched the world record for 200m breast in 1993, and tallied a huge collection of medals and displayed them all to myself and other swimmers he was coaching afterwards.
