My favorites, 1 being the best imo.
1. Mike Birbiglia
2. Jim Gaffigan
3. Bill Hicks
4. Jerry Seinfeld
5. Sarah Silverman
Mike Birbiglia is my favorite since most of his bits come from his real life experiences, and his delivery is so good because he puts absolutely no emphasis on the punch lines or anything.
Jim Gaffigan makes fun of his eating habits, paleness, etc. He also does this thing where he changes his voice and says what an audience member could think.
Bill Hicks was awesome because he was edgy, made fun of idiots, and cursed a lot (which always makes jokes better haha_
Jerry Seinfeld was probably the first comic I discovered (when I was little). His ability to make amazing material without it being the least bit edgy was really gret.
I just watched the Sarah Silverman special "Jesus Is Magic" and thought it was hilarious. She isn't afraid to sound ridiculously gross (ex. "I was licking jelly off my boyfriend's **** and just thought, Oh my god. I'm turning into my mother")
Obviously I'm leaving out many others (Chappelle, Carlin, Richard Lewis, Lewis Black, etc) but these are my favorites.
What about you guys :D
EDIT: Also, Lenny Bruce would be on that list, but I've never listened to his material, but I know he basically started the stand up comedy we listen to today.

Saw Tim Michin the other night on TV. He was bloody good, very funny and very talented pianist.
TBH, every Comedian in your top 5 are awful IMO. Then again i supposes Americans do have a very different (terrible) sense of humour. Sarah Silverman is especially bad. I watched about 5 minutes of her show before switching over.
I don't know about a top 5 but a few i like; Dara O'Brien, Frankie Boyle (he does try a bit too hard to be contraversial but still pretty good), Ardal O'Hanlon. Can't think of any more at the minute.

Billy Connolly - hands down the best comedian to have lived.
