What I think might be a good idea, is 300-print only album exclusive, but after a year, the tracks are digitally released.
Still makes the album worth it, still gives it exclusivity, but it doesn't prevent everyone from enjoying the tracks

But then after that it makes the original idea pointless, because it was only exclusive for a year.

Watchtower is doing something like this. I was kinda dissapointed on Vol.1 and I will buy the tracks I like from Vol.2 when it gets digitally released.

Not really. If thumpa keeps on doing the Pre-order, and people STILL wants to buy, he will still do like he does now. If anyone's cranky about "only 1-2 year exclusivity(?)", why do they bother at all? I doubt 50% of the people listen much to the album after one year, or they might have ripped it to their computer/portable media players anyways.

He's selling this album for 14 quid (excluding postage). That's affordable, and if thumpa does do digitals later, he could follow our ideas and wait 1-2 years before releasing them. Let the people who is more faithful listen and play the tracks for that time, and for the people who waited, let them wait. At least this way, people who wish to buy the tracks can do it later (if they have missed the chance or not).

And don't forget that compilations usually sells for a higher price. Especially on iTunes.

But it will still no longer be exclusive because anyone can buy the tracks.

I hope for the love of the music that most people who actually bought this didn't buy it because "oh it's excusive, I must have it". Then people are buying it in bad faith, in greed.
Edit: This is kinda what I do, but that's because Thumpa has his mind set on never re-releasing the tracks again. but then, I have still not seen Thumpa reply to my question if the artists themselfs are allowed to do whatever they want with their tracks?

Okey I'm going to bed now. I expect to see my name written in blood when I get back in the morning. Toodles!

The point of exclusivity isn't permanent exclusivity, it's that it's only available to a select few when the songs are new, fresh, and unheard on dance floors.
DJs are constantly looking for new music to play out, and after a year, they would have obviously been played to hell and back, so the exclusivity bit has done it's part.

In that respect yes. But I'm talking about for the owners of the CD.

They get a physical copy, save a huge heap of money, and a year of listening to the songs before others do.
You're arguing exclusivity for the sake of exclusivity. There's absolutely no point in that.
As I said before, music is meant to be heard, not coveted.

The owners of the CD would probably disagree, lol.

But that's because they're not missing out, they have nothing to lose.

I have to agree with Jacek on one element. You should buy a CD because it contains good music, not because you get a hard-on about being one of a small group to own it.

I made that mistake with Die Another Day. I wasn't amazed by the clips, but quite liked a couple. Thought, "Yeah, but, it would be bad not to have that and then end up wanting it, but by then it's too late". Ended up buying it. I've really never used the tracks very much at all. I can barely remember the tracklist to be honest.

I bought the album after that - World Heavyweight Freeform - because it was sick. I did not buy Blood, Sweat & Tears because it was another Die Another Day-style collection of tunes that just didn't do it for me.

I'm sure no one really gives a fcuk about my personal thought processes about buying these albums - just trying to illustrate the point that this exclusivity thing encouraged me to buy an album I didn't really want. My own fault really.

I personally don't actually care whether Thumpa decides to do more units, less units or the same - if he does an album that caters for my tastes, I'll order it straight away. No worries.

I'm not saying anyone would be buying it purely because it's exclusive even though they don't like it, that would just be stupid.

But you are saying that exclusivity significantly enhances the desirability of it?

Then what are you arguing for? That was your entire point of why he shouldn't do it - it ruins exlcusivity.
But your point for why it should remain exclusive was because.. it's exclusive.

For some maybe. I'm just saying it is a bonus.

I'm not not the one releasing the CD. I'm just explaining why it is a good thing.
