About 11 percent of (3000) young citizens of the U.S. couldn't even locate the U.S. on a map. The Pacific Ocean's location was a mystery to 29 percent; Japan, to 58 percent; France, to 65 percent; and the United Kingdom, to 69 percent.

i might add, although coming from a well grounded company who owns tv stations and magazines world wide (usually nature and culture based)
i personally think its highly suspicous, at least in the way its written
when it comes to the US figures, they dont offer any comparisons, they dont tell us how britain faired in the test, but they move on to tell us how britain and other countrys faired in other tests, and dont tell us how to US did...
so i think its a crappy report, if i was the editor i would have thrown it back at them and told them to re-write it from a more balanced view.

unfortunatly, whomever pays the bills gets to determine what is writen in the pages, it doesn't have to be fair and balanced. i try not to look to hard into stories like that as they are normally biased ********.

Not always, most of the time they will only point out anomalies, most other countries scores were probably average, or what you'd expect and so therefor not worth mentioning as it's not an anomaly so not very interesting to the average reader.

*Well how could you say that it would "suck" to live in America if you've never been here yourself? I'm not saying America is the best place to live but all you've ever known is how it's like to live in the U.K.... I've lived in New York City for my whole life and I don't really know anything otherwise and I have to say that **I really do like living here - it's who I am. I personally think New York, especially Manhattan, is different from all the other cities in the United States. People here are intellectuals, more open minded, free, diverse ***compared to other places in states.
I'm glad aswell that you enjoy the fact that when you "turn on the tv i dont get bombarded with newsflashes saying that i'm gonna be killed by some stereotypical Iraqi's terrorist attack." ****Don't you think I would too? It sure as hell sucks to wake up everday and wonder what kind of stupid ass shit could happen to you! It's frightening especially when you have friends and family all around the city that was "attacked on September 11th." Don't you think that I and everyone else here would like to feel safe when we step outside to go to school or work everday?
And where the fuk did you read about that study conducted in an American school asking to locate all the countries on a blank map? It was probably taken down South, some where all the hobos are at who don't know their geography...In my GLOBAL Studies class, *****we're forced to have that information down packed in our brains or else we wouldn't hear the end of it.
Some people are extremely proud that they're American and believe that America is the "GREATEST PLACE IN THE WORLD!," but if you noticed most of them are Pres. Bush supporters. I for one am a Bush hater. He could get shot to death and be brought back to life to be shot to death again for all I care. (...freak! i am. i know) Anyways,
yeah, people do speak using a lot of slang + swearing, especially those people who are into the whole hip-hop, rap 'n crap scene. In my school there are a couple of "those." I usually laugh when they speak because I don't speak using slang nor do I understand any of it. Actually, I do. "That's madd cool!" Which simply means that something's really cool. They use the "madd" a lot when they speak.
*sighs* ******This site mainly consists of non-Americans. Should I be ashamed of being an American/New Yorker and leave??
I have a question. *******Why do some of you hate a person immediately just for being an American. Not everyone is the stereotypical American! It's not like that over here I don't think. I mean, we're not all like 'ooh you're from england...? sorry can't chat. i don't like you people.' That's something I don't understand. Seriously. Take me for example. I'd probably agree with most of things you think, say, and agree on...
*if you read what you just said then you will see for yourself why i would think it would suck.
**"i really do like living here" ...make your mind up, all of a sudden you like living there?
***then you will see i was questioning AMERICA, not New York. Anything i ever say that's negative about AMERICA you seem to get offended about Erica, and i honestly dont know why... i wasn't pointing a finger at you was i? no i wasnt
****again you took that the wrong way... i was saying that i am happy that i dont get brainwashed by the British Media. I wasn't having a go at you for what your country chooses to show you... mostly being false sh*t that keeps you all panicking every day. it's sad, and so f*cked up... not your fault though
*****Forced... hmm... thats what i meant by most of you are blind. i wasn't referring to you in my last post, but after that i think you are included, you dont want to know because it's not America, which i find pretty sad to be honest
******you know that you shouldnt go, you know what everybody here will say to that... NO
i think that was just you looking for attention there, sorry if it offends you, but thats what it looks like from here
*******because i have spoken to a LOT of Americans over the past few years, and most of you are arrogant a*sholes that are completely wrapped up in your own little world and think America is the greatest place on Earth and is superior to the rest of the world. thats why
this however, does not apply to anybody that i can think of on this website, and especially not you, Erica, you're great

Never did I say that America is the best place ever, especially now when we have Bush as our president. All I said was that I like living in New York EVEN THOUGH there are so many ***** things about it. But this is where I'm at and I just have to deal with it and move on.
Speaking for myself here, would love to learn about other countries and even visit them but that's not really possible at the moment. Yea, I totally agree that you think America thinks it's superior to the rest of the world. Sadly, it's true. We do think that we're top of the game and that is why we think that we could get involved in everything and be right, and everything should be our way. I disagree totally; it's stupid.
wow doesn't it sux that my name's in America. AmERICA. and my twin sister's name is Amanda. and the first two letters of her name are the first two letters in AMerica.
*plz don't take everything i say soo seriously. mostly what i say that u could have a go at, i'm only messin... and chris, about that non-american part and if i should leave. i totally wasn't being serious there*

because it seems to be a hot topic at the moment. I'm sure all of the British Dj's that come to America to play for the ravers here hate all of the money we send their way. I just paid money for a Raver Baby and a HTID shirt from England. I'm sure my money isn't good enough though.
