my advice is keep a eye on ebay and go for second hand technics!
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Technics-1210-MK2s_W0QQitemZ270261000958QQihZ017QQcategoryZ48460QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem £255 with 17 hours to go gemini are worse than numark, avoid citronic like the plauge imo best thing you can do is get 1210/1200, if you blow all your cash on them just pick up a cheap mixer. a sh*t mixer is better than sh*t decks

numark are great for starting out - everyone starts out somewhere.
its been said on here - alot - and i'll repeat it -
"if you learn to mix on shitty decks, once you move to the bad-boy-decks of the scene, you'll take that with you and be a better DJ"
buying a pair of cheeper decks also gives you the option to cut your loss's if things dont go to planned or if you find its not your thing.
if it is, you keep buying those records, pushing the partys and saving the money, eventually by the time you have the money saved up to buy the hardcore decks (1210's/TTX1's/PDX etc etc) they'll have come down in price.
get the decks, spend the rest on vinyl - get straight into it, start mixing and making noise!
decks will always be around - vinyl will not.
its important to note that most clubs will have technics 1210's in them, they are great decks and are what you need to get used to at some point.
it does NOT mean however that you HAVE to own them, OR that they are the best out there!
Vestax, Numark and some others have their higher end models that equal the 1210 (ie: the PDX** series, TTX1/T500/X1 Hybrid)
it seems to be a bit of a cliché now, people bullying/demanding other people buy technics 1210's - just seems to be the done thing, you hear one ego-DJ (you know the type) saying "yeh mate, nothin but technics innit" - and it just gets passed on...and soon enough all the 12 year olds on the clubland forum are saying it.. with no idea why they are other than..."its in all the clubs" or... "its time tested"
like cars really! just because you see a zillion ford fiestas on the road in england - doesnt mean they're the best, it just means they're cheep to run and time tested reliable :)
------------------------------------------------------
bottom line suggestion from me - if you are starting out
and you dont want too flimsy - spend a tinsy bit more and get
http://www.decks.co.uk/products/dj_deck_packages/numark_packages/TT200_DM950 its £335 or £360 with the speakers the decks arent bad, and will last you at least 5/6 years without problems maybe longer with good behavior - the mixer isnt so great, if your wanting to learn to scratch you will need to upgrade it to at least somthing you can adjust the cut on the crossfader. for a first buy decks - i would avoid ebay and buy a brand new direct drive package - at least you know what you are getting, they wont stink of marijuana and it comes with everything you need... apart from talent and vinyl of course ;) thats my two cents - you decide whats best, dont let people TELL you what you need to buy do some research read about the decks make sure your getting non-biased info. good god - theres alot of 1210s on ebay....not so many ttx1's ..hmmm

^^^^^^ i owned pdx decks, 1200 are built to last vestax build quality leaves a lot to be desired
the technics on ebay i posted went for £320, i would much prefer to have second hand technics than numark decks
the reason theres more technics on ebay is cause they are the biggest selling decks ever, and sorry to say no numark decks compare to technics!

thank you all for ur advice but in the end i decided to go for some decks off decks.com.
i got a package for 355, some stanton and numark.
like some of you said they aint the best and not realy reliable but im gonna agree wid djTriquatra. im just startin out so gonna spend abit more on vinyl.
anyway i got my decks come frew 2day n set em up straight away. - but when i plugged in the speakers, evry time i connected the wire connection to the back of the decks it makes a funny buzzin sound.
i got 2 connectors plugged into the bk of the mixer (master) and then 1 goes into the back of the decks. right ?
so whys it makin a funny sound ?
i had abit of trouble settin up the needle but i got that sorted now.
any1 got anytips on dj'ing, anythin would be helpfull to get me on the way to playin @ HTID along side storm n wizzkid lol

thankyou for proving my point cmc :)
like i said, alot of people who own 1210's will freek out completly if you buy or consider anything else, no matter what it is - its like you hurt their pride/told them its not big enough.
personally i love the 1210's - but that doesnt make me so vain/arrogant as to not look at other turntables as well.
technically speaking the TTX1's and quite of few of the other high end turntables out there are of a higher spec (torque-wise, anti-skip wise, wow, flutter etc etc) than the 20 year old design of the 1200/10, but that doesnt change the fact that the 1210's have been around since the dawn of time.
plenty of good reviews, happy owners for the high end vestax, numark, stantons out there.
think of it like microsoft windows.......
windows is everywhere - does that make Mac and Linux obsolete/useless? because windows is in most homes?
nothing wrong with progress, without progress we would all still be beating on the CDJ's out there.
